Q: What are the requirements to be in drama club?
A: A love of theatre! Seriously, even if you have no experience, you are welcome. If you are interested, please come to a meeting to see what the club is all about.
Q: Can home-schooled students participate in the club?
A: Yes! We would be happy to have home-schooled students join us.
Q: Is there a fee to participate in drama club?
A: There is a $25 participation fee payable at the finance window. If you are unable to pay it, please speak to the drama club director as there are scholarships available.
Q: When does drama club meet?
A: Club Meetings are on the First and Third Monday of every month
Q: Where does drama club meet?
A: We now meet in the Black Box (room 7107), the drama classroom in the PAC. Students interested in technical theatre may meet Ms. Bridget in the shop (room 7108) occasionally.
Q: How many shows do you have each year?
A: Currently, we have three main shows: a fall musical, Dramafest in the winter, and a spring play.
Q: When do you rehearse?
A: We usually rehearse from 2:30-5:00pm Monday-Thursdays. If you are cast in a show, you will be expected to attend most rehearsals. Crew members will have a different time commitment. The exception to this is the week a show opens - cast and crew will be required to attend the full week of rehearsals leading up to opening night. These rehearsals - tech week - will likely be longer than typical rehearsals. Please come to auditions prepared with a list of conflicts.
Q: Does everyone in drama club automatically receive a role in the shows?
A: No. Everyone who wants a role in a show must fill out the applicable forms and audition to be considered for role.
Q: Do I have to be in the club to audition?
A: No, you may audition without being on the official drama club roster. However, if you are cast in a show, you are expected to pay the drama club fee.
Q: How do I audition for a show?
A; Read the "Audition Information" document on our home page for audition information regarding our 2023 production of The Alibis!
Q: Will everyone who auditions receive a role?
A: Sometimes yes; sometimes no. It depends on the number of roles available and the number of students who audition.
Q: How competitive are auditions?
A: It is different for every show. It depends on how many students turnout for auditions, which is impossible to know until students have turned in application forms to audition. Students who have the most experience performing tend to have the most confidence and have developed their skills, therefore, do better at auditions. But a well-prepared newcomer could do well too. It's important to remember the director is not only looking for your performance skills, but also your communication skills and your willingness to work as a team. An actor's attitude can also make or break them. So come to auditions with an open-mind, support your fellow actors, be positive, be professional, and be willing to take creative risks.
Q: Are there opportunities for students to do behind-the-scenes theatre work?
A: Yes! During the shows we will likely have students run lights and sound, as well as help backstage with moving sets, costume quick changes, and hair and makeup. We also have a student stage manager, who will work closely with Ms. Bridget. Before the show opens, crew members who are interested in set construction may find jobs working with Ms. Bridget.
Q: Are there fees for participating in the shows separate from the drama club fees?
A: Nope! It's the same fee, so if you've already paid it, you are all set.
Q: Are there opportunities for students to direct?
A: Yes! Dramafest is great opportunity for upperclassmen to direct a short one act. There is also a junior director position available for our spring production, The Alibis. If you're interested, fill out the form on our home page!
Q: Are there opportunities for student playwrights?
A: Yes! Dramafest is a student-led production where there are opportunities to write shows!
Q: What events aside from the three main shows does drama club put on?
A: Drama club has monthly club meetings that everyone is welcome to, where we share information and do fun activities like theater related games, dance workshops, and watching shows! In previous years, drama club has hosted an annual youth workshop for students grades 3rd-8th to learn theater skills from high school drama students. We have also done outreach and connections to the middle school drama programs!
Q: What board/leadership positions exist in drama club?
A: We have a president, vice president, treasurer/secretary, public relations/historian, crew representative and a Freshman representative. If you are interested in becoming the Freshman rep, please fill out the application! (due September 26th at midnight).
Q: How do I apply for a board/leadership position?

Q: Who is the drama club director?
A: Mr. Brown is the returning drama club director and theatre teacher (for the first time in years) at MSHS. Ms. Bridget, the PAC manager, will also be leading parts of drama club, specifically focused on tech theatre.
