Isolation: A Monologue Play
Since we cannot be together physically, we have decided to create a performance virtually. We are writing and producing an original piece called Isolation: A Monologue Play. All monologues will be written and performed by Mount Si Drama. The monologues will be written based on the theme of quarantine/isolation/covid-19. They can be anything as long as the theme is present and the speaker/character is alone - comedy, drama, poetry, and everything in-between is welcome (provided it’s school appropriate). The more monologues we write, the more actors we can have, so I challenge you to consider writing a monologue even if you do not consider yourself to be a writer. After we have collected and finalized all the monologues, we will assign them to an actor. The actor will work to develop the character, embody and memorize the text, then finally record it from the safety of their own home. Then we will put all the monologues together to create a performance piece (on film) that documents this strange moment in time. Because while none of this was planned, and it often feels far from what’s ideal or normal, we are living history: a global pandemic. As artists, we can tell this story through a unique lens. Use your voice to tell your story. “Who lives, who dies, who tells your story?”
